Vande Bharat Express

Vande Bharat Express, India’s first indigenously built semi-speed train was flagged off from New Delhi on February 15, 2019, by prime minister Narendra Modi. It was designed and built at the Train coach factory at Perambur in Chennai as part of Made in India initiative. It has a total seating capacity of 1128 passengers. The train covers the distance between New Delhi and Varanasi in only eight minutes. 

The train runs on all days of the week except Monday and Thursday. It is probably the fastest train in the country with the highest speed of 130km/hr. The superfast train covers a distance of 759kms in 8 hours. Also known as Train 18, it is touted as the successor to Shatabdi express and cuts the travel time by 15%. The eight-hour journey from New Delhi to Varanasi has only two stops in between Kanpur and Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad). No senior citizen /Divyang/journalist concession ticket booking is allowed, and IRCTC levies full adult fare is allowed in Vande Bharat Express. The second Vande Bharat Express runs from New Delhi to Katre.

Facilities of the Vande Bharat Express

The indigenously built train, the Vande Bharat Express, marks the new era of travel technology. 

The fully air-conditioned Train 18 features a total of 16 coaches onboard control for train operating and remote operating. 

Engineless

It is an engine-less self-propelled train set which allows for faster acceleration and deceleration and is made up of a stainless steel car body.

Embedded Facilities

The train encompasses modern facilities that include GPS-based infotainment, CCTV surveillance, Wi-Fi system, and bio vacuum toilets.

Cattle Guard

The train has special windows to protect from stone pelting and also has a cattle guard to prevent damage to the train in case of derailment when hit by cattle.

Automatic Doors

The fully air-conditioned train comprises train coaches fitted with fully automatic doors that feature sliding footsteps. 

Seating Options

The train features two seating options: economy and executive class. The good thing is that the chairs of the executive class can be turned up to 180 degrees.

Food Facility in the train

The train serves food on the train, which is included in the fare of the train. When travelling from New Delhi to Varanasi, you will be served breakfast and lunch. On the other hand, when you are travelling from Varanasi to New Delhi, you will be served snacks and dinner. 

Free Wi-Fi Access

The train offers onboard access to Wi-Fi to passengers travelling in the train. They can access the internet on their tablets or smartphones.

GPS System

It also features a GPS based passenger information system that updates the passengers about the upcoming stations and other information.

Bio-Vaccum Toilets

The bio vacuum toilets fitted in the train are used for Indian as well as western-style washrooms and address the sanitation problem in the train. The train adopts a zero discharge facility, as observed in the airplanes. Touch-free bathroom fittings offer users to experience sanitation without any worry. 

Smart Security

The train is under CCTV surveillance all the time and thereby enhances the safety and security of the passengers. Fitted with automatic doors, the doors completely open simultaneously upon reaching a station, and the train only moves after the doors of the coaches are entirely shut. 

Disabled-Friendly

Some of the coaches in the Vande Bharat express feature spaces wherein the disabled can freely park their wheelchairs in the area provided.

Hi-tech Pantry 

The pantry of the Vande Bharata Express is fitted with the advanced equipment for heating food as well as cooling beverages and other foods. 

Chargeable Sockets

The train is fitted with the chargeable sockets in all the coaches so that the passengers can easily recharge their mobiles/ laptops. The sockets are placed in a convenient position under each seat.

Other Features

Other features in the Train 18 include Auto sensor taps, Diffused LED lightning, Computerised aero-dynamic driver cabin, reading lights with touch control, advanced regenerative braking system, and more.

Delhi to Varanasi Vande Bharat Express: Running Time and Schedule

Currently, the trains are running on two routes; one from New Delhi to Varanasi and the second train from Delhi to Karta. Indian Railways has assigned train numbers 22436 and 22435 for trains running from Delhi to Varanasi Vande Bharat Express. Similarly, the up and down trains of Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express were assigned with the train numbers 22439 and 22440.

Vande Bharat Express runs between Varanasi and New Delhi Railway station. When it comes to the timings, the train departs at 6.00 am in the morning in New Delhi and reaches 2.00 pm (14.00 hrs) in the afternoon. As per IRCTC, the train will halt at 10:20 am in Kanpur for 2 minutes and at Allahabad (Prayagraj) at 12:25 pm for 2 minutes.

Similarly, the train departs from Varanasi at 3.00 pm (15.00 hrs) and reaches the New Delhi railway station at 11.00 pm (23.00 hrs). The train has only two stoppages in between one at Kanpur and the other at Prayagraj (Allahabad). The train halts at Allahabad (Prayagraj) and Kanpur at 4:35 pm and 6:30 pm, respectively, for 2 minutes each.

Delhi to Katra Vande Bharat Express: Running Time and Train Schedule

The train travelling from New Delhi to Katra is assigned a train number 22439, and for the train travelling from Katra-New, Delhi is assigned a train number 22440. When it comes to train schedule while travelling from New Delhi to Karta, the train departs at the origin station at 6 am and reaches the destination (Katra) at 2 pm. In between, the train halts for 2 minutes at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, and Jammu Tawi.

Similarly, the train 22440 Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express departs from the Katra railway station at 3 pm. It reaches its destination, New Delhi railway station at 11 pm. Similar to the Delhi-Katra route, the train halts for two minutes at Jammu Tawi, Ludhiana, and Ambala Cantt station.

Ticket Fares and Seating Classes in Vande Bharat Express

The Vande Bharat Express features two Seating classes; Executive and AC Chair car. The fares of the Train 18 did differ based on the route through which they were operating. For instance, the train fare for Executive class for Delhi to Varanasi is Rs 3310, while for travelling from Varanasi to New Delhi costs you only Rs 3250. Similarly, the price for an AC Chair car for travelling from Delhi to Varanasi is Rs 1760, and for a return journey from Varanasi to Delhi costs only Rs 1700.

Ticket Fares for Delhi to Katra Vande Bharat Express

The train service from Delhi to Katra Vande Bharat Express is a boon for Mata Vaishno Devi devotees. It ensures smooth and luxurious travel to the pilgrims visiting the temple. The Vande Bharat Express also reduces the journey time between Delhi to Katra travel time to 8 hours from the current time of 12 hours. Train number 22439 will leave from New Delhi at 6:00 am and reach Katra at 2:00 pm on the same day. Similarly, the other train number 22440 will depart from Katra at 3:00 pm and reach Delhi at 11:00 pm.

The travel fare of Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express for AC Chair will be ₹1,630.00. For the same route, the travel fare for Executive Chair Car would be ₹3,015.

Similarly, for the other route of travel from Delhi to Katra, the fare is Rs 1570 for AC chair car and Rs 2965 for executive chair car.

How to Book Vande Bharat Express Ticket Online?

Similar to any other trains running under Indian Railways, the tickets for Vande Bharat express can be booked both by online and offline modes. For offline modes, one can book tickets through the Indian Railway reservation counters. If you want to book tickets online, you can do so by logging into the IRCTC web portal as well as the Rail Connect app.

Book Vande Bharat Express Tickets Online Through IRCTC

  • Visit the official IRCTC website at www.irctc.co.in
  • Log in to your account with your credentials.
  • If you do not have an account with IRCTC, then you can sign up for a new account.
  • Enter the details in the From and To boxes.
  • Select Vande Bharat Express from the list of trains.
  • Further, choose the Train class; Executive or the Chair Car.
  • Fill in the required passenger details and proceed to the payment.
  • Complete the transaction using any of the available payment modes.
  • Voila! You have successfully made your online reservation for the travel.
