Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, also known as DMRC was launched in 1995 as a part of the Centre-state public transport system. The Delhi Metro is the third-largest metro rail network in the country following the likes of Kolkata Metro and Chennai MTRS. The Delhi Metro connects rail networks across various cities that include Noida, Bahadurgarh, Gurgaon, Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Gone are the days where have to stand in long queues for purchase metro train tickets. In the digital age, if you commute the metro network daily, it is ideal to opt for the Delhi Metro card. The Metro card is more or less similar to the wallet and can be recharged online as well as offline. Every time you commute through the Delhi Metro, the balance gets automatically deducted from the balance.

How to Check Delhi Metro Card Balance?

You can check Delhi Metro card balance by multiple means using both Online and Offline methods. Offline mode involves Add Value Machines (AVM), Automatic token vending machines, Customer care center, and exit at the station. You can check the Metrocard balance online using Paytm.

The AVMs are available at all Metro stations of the Delhi Metro network. The Automatic Vending machines can be used to check the balance of your metro card. 

Automatic Token Vending Machines

The Automatic token vending machines are installed at various locations, using which you can check the metro card balance.

Customer Care Centre

The customer care centers present in all metro stations can also be used to check your MetroCard balance. Besides offering the necessary assistance to the travelers, the customer care centers also help to replace the non-working physical card. The charges for the replacement depends on the physical condition of the card. 

During exit at the station

You can also check the MetroCard balance of your smart card while exiting from the station. When the smart card is swiped against the exit point, the updated balance of your smart card is displayed.

How to Check Metro Card Balance Online?

You can check your metro card balance using Paytm. For this:

  • Log in to Paytm official website from your desktop, laptop or PC. 
  • If you are a mobile user, you can download the Paytm app from Google Play and App Store.
  • Click on the Metro option and then select the Delhi Metro option.
  • Enter the 12 digit number of your Delhi Smart card and click on the “Check Balance” option.
  • Expand the customer details tab on the next screen to check the Metro card balance.

How to Recharge the Delhi Metro Card?

There are several means by which you can recharge your Metro card. You can do it online as well as offline modes.

Ways to Recharge your Metro Card Offline

There are three offline modes, by which you can recharge your smart card. They include:

  • Point of Sale
  • Token Vending Machine
  • Customer Care Center

Point of Sale: 

They are available at select stations and offer users recharge during the purchase of the physical card. The minimum recharge value is Rs 200, and the denominations further increase by a minimum amount of Rs 100.

Token Vending Machines

They are available at all the stations of the Delhi Metro network. The process is completely automated and allows customers to recharge their metro card. The minimum cash value for recharge through Token Vending machines is Rs 100, and the denominations can increase by an amount of Rs 50.

Customer Care Center

The customer care centers are available at every metro station and help you recharge your smart card with a minimum value of Rs 200. You can also recharge with more prominent denominations, with each recharge increasing by a denomination value of Rs 100.

Top Up Facility Through SMS (ICICI Account)

The Delhi Metro Smart card users can also make use of the Top-up facility offered by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. However, it is limited to the ICICI bank account holders. The format for to recharge via SMS is DMRC <space>Card Engraved ID<space>Amount<space>last six digits of ICICI bank Account number and send to 9222208888. After sending the SMS, go to AVMs installed at DMRC Metro stations for validation of the Top-up amount.

Online Recharge

  • To recharge via online, visit portals such as

  • After visiting the portal, you can share the card information and enter the value.
  • You can avail multiple payment modes such as internet banking, Debit/Credit card, and Wallet (Paytm) to complete the transaction.
  • The added value then needs to be validated at various AVMs (Automatic vending machines) installed at various stations. 

Through Paytm

Delhi Metro has partnered with digital wallet provider Paytm to facilitate easy recharge of the metro smart card. Follow the steps below to recharge your Delhi smart card using Paytm:

  • Open the Paytm app/website and click on “Metro.”
  • Select “Delhi Metro” option from the list
  • Enter your Metro card number and amount
  • Click on “Proceed to Pay.”
  • Choose from the wide range of available payment options. You can also recharge using Paytm wallet.
  • That’s it! After successful recharge, you would receive a confirmation. 
  • After top-up, the recharge amount has to be validated with the Automatic Vending machines (AVMs) present in various stations.

How Do I Get a Delhi Metro Smart Card?

Delhi Metro Smart Card is a good option for frequent travelers. It eliminates the hassle of having to wait in queues for long hours. You can avail Delhi Metro Smart Card from the Customer care centers located at various Delhi Metro stations. To avail the smart card, you need to pay Rs 150, which includes a refundable security deposit of Rs 50. The amount will be refunded after the successful return of the card. You would get a value of Rs 100 with the physical card which can be redeemed for travel. The maximum amount of recharge for the Delhi Metro smart card is Rs 3000.

    Can you let me know how we can find out our card balance on line and also look at our travel history in metro therough some on line process only as I feel this facility is not avilable in your system if not than update your system ASAP
